About me

Hi! I'm Katherine. Growing up I had always wanted to be in a profession that allowed me to interact highly with others. Upon going to school I realized that speech pathology was a great option. After shadowing over Christmas break my freshman year of college, I realized it was the profession for me! I have taken a great interest in the correlation between mental health and aphasia in adults. After working in a nursing home, I realized just how crucial it is to ensure communication with others and how that directly impacts mental health. I have been taking continuing education courses to gain a better grasp on my role in this issue. I also have been interested in learning more about how to treat children with trauma who have communication disorders--specifically, how I can become a better advocate for them. I have taken courses pertaining to this subject as well. In college I taught an American sign language course at the University of Mississippi and absolutely loved it. I have worked with a variety of populations including pediatrics, swing bed hospital, long-term care and rehabilitation, and outpatient clinic. I would describe my clinical style as rooted in client empowerment by creating self-advocates.

(My daughter) adores Katherine! She responds so well to her, and Katherine has truly made therapy a great experience! That session was amazing! (My daughter) got to show off her intelligence and worked really hard on correcting pronunciation! Katherine does an amazing job with her, and (my daughter) looks forward to speech every week!

Katie is a great therapist! She is genuinely enthusiastic about every success (my child) has in school and life. I know she is 100% for us and is always willing to talk about anything I need help with as parental support for a child with language struggles.
