Get startedHi! I'm Rachel. I became a licensed speech-language pathologist (SLP) in 2015. I began my career as a first-grade teacher and have always had a passion for teaching and helping children grow. When a hiring freeze made teaching jobs scarce, a chance encounter with my third-grade teacher changed my path—she suggested I look into Speech-Language Pathology. That same night, I did my research, enrolled in a program the next day, and I’ve never looked back. I truly love being part of the process of developing and rehabilitating communication skills, and it brings me so much joy to watch my clients gain confidence and independence. As a lifelong learner, I am committed to staying up-to-date with evidence-based practices and always seek out new strategies to help my clients succeed. I have received trainings and certifications on the following: QBS Trainer, PROMPT level one trained, currently enrolled in GLP course. I worked in settings such as: school, hospital, outpatient, home health, non-profit pediatric outpatient. I would describe my clinical style as holistic, client-centered, functional, individualized/personalized, family-centric, and strengths-based.

At home, I’m kept company by my sweet dog, Chloe, nine lively fish, and a snail named Henry who always makes me smile. The duration of speech therapy is different for everyone, and it depends on several factors. This includes the type of speech disorder or communication challenge, the frequency of speech therapy sessions, how often you practice the skills taught in speech therapy at home, your personal or professional goals, any underlying medical conditions, and more.

Speech therapy sessions are focused on each client’s care plan, and the activities done during sessions always relate to those goals. So, if a person is in speech therapy to better pronounce the /s/ sound, they’ll begin by learning how to make the sound by itself and work up to practicing it in conversation. Or if someone wants to improve the quality of their voice, their speech therapist will teach them appropriate breathing and vocal exercises. The therapist will aim to do as many trials of each exercise as possible, in order to make the most of each session.
Your speech therapist will constantly be measuring and assessing your response to these exercises. When needed, they’ll make changes to your treatment plan to help you make progress as quickly as possible. Regardless of your goals, your speech therapist will always provide practice activities to complete at home between sessions.
