Erin Embry
Licensed Speech-Language Pathologist (M.S., CCC-SLP)
Hi! I’m Erin. My journey into speech-language pathology began with a desire to work in healthcare in a capacity that allowed for deep, meaningful engagement with patients and their families. While I have spent over 15 years of my career in large hospital systems—primarily specializing in adults with acute and progressive neurogenic communication and swallowing impairments —I have always been driven by the field's unique ability to impact lives across the entire lifespan. I have always been energized by the versatility of our profession. This breadth of experience allows me to apply clinical knowledge to a wide variety of unique needs, whether I am helping a child develop their language or assisting an adult in regaining the safety and joy of eating. Ultimately, I stay in this field because of the relationships. I have learned that caregivers are the heartbeat of the team. Whether in a high-acuity hospital or a community-based setting, I value the collaborative process of tailoring evidence-based care to the individual, ensuring that every patient—regardless of age—receives the compassionate and competent advocacy they deserve.
My academic training has provided a strong foundation in both communication and swallowing disorders across the lifespan. During my undergraduate and graduate studies, I completed advanced coursework in areas such as anatomy and physiology of the speech and hearing mechanism, diagnostic methods, dysphagia in adults and children, communication and aging, and multicultural considerations in speech-language pathology.
I also participated in interdisciplinary, case-based dysphagia training and gained international clinical perspective through coursework completed in Lund, Sweden. My clinical practicum experiences included both in-person and telehealth settings, allowing me to develop flexible, evidence-based approaches to care.
I have worked across a wide range of medical and community-based settings, including acute care hospitals, inpatient rehabilitation, skilled nursing facilities, university clinics, corporate environments, and private practice in both in-person and telehealth formats.
This diverse experience has allowed me to support individuals with a broad range of communication and swallowing needs, from medically complex patients in high-acuity settings to individuals receiving ongoing care in outpatient and home-based environments. Working across settings has strengthened my ability to adapt therapy to each person’s daily routines, environments, and goals—ensuring care is both functional and meaningful.
My clinical approach is holistic, client-centered, functional, and highly individualized. I incorporate routines-based and sensory-integration-informed practices to support meaningful carryover, and I prioritize family involvement, strengths-based strategies, and client empowerment to help each person build confidence, independence, and lifelong self-advocacy skills.
