About me

Hi! I'm Clarissa. I graduated from Howard University with my Master of Science degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders. After completing my clinical fellowship year, I became a licensed speech-language pathologist (SLP). I decided to become an SLP after being introduced to speech pathology while I was in high school caring for a child with autism. I have been passionate about speech pathology ever since. I would describe my clinical style and approach as client- and family-centered. I believe in working as a team with families and other disciplines to treat the client holistically. I pride myself in making sure that my therapy sessions are individualized and functional for each client I treat. I have worked in settings such as public schools, home health, private therapy clinics, and universities. While working at Gallaudet University, I supervised graduate students in the Communication Sciences and Disorders department and taught a course on articulation and speech sound disorders. I am certified in the following: Hanen, LAMP Words for Life, PESL Accent Modification, and Unity Language System. In addition, I have experience with low- and high-tech AAC devices. I believe in this field that we are constantly learning. I take trainings in different disorder areas in an effort to learn about new techniques and approaches to better help my clients.

If I could give 100 stars, I would. Clarissa is the SLP I wish we had a long time ago. Her kind and gentle firmness when things get a little challenging have helped our son grow and learn to help reach his goals.

My son was returning from an extended break from his sessions at Expressable. He and his SLP Clarissa we're able to meet up and jump back into a flow. The session was very successful and my 4-year-old son left feeling empowered. Clarissa took a moment to walk me through a game plan on how to help my son work on some things that he regressed on. It was overall a really good experience.

We are a family who has needed the help of an SLP for over eight years. We’ve met some really wonderful people on our journey and this stop is no exception. We appreciate how Clarissa is able to connect so easily and bring out the best in our child. We know there are more challenging days than others, and that is where most of the growing happens in my opinion. Clarissa is doing an awesome job!

Expressable was a very convenient and approachable way to get speech therapy, which I had been considering for a long time. My speech therapist, Clarissa, was amazing to work with. She was very supportive and gave me encouragement throughout the process of correcting my lisp. Overall, it was a great experience.
