About me

Hello! I’m Carlie. I became a licensed speech-language pathologist (SLP) because I’ve always felt driven to help people of all ages, and becoming an SLP let me combine that passion with my love for both teaching and healthcare. I have worked in clinical settings such as outpatient, clinics, rehab, and schools, with experience serving early intervention and medically complex populations. I specialize in alternative and augmentative communication (AAC), feeding, aural rehabilitation, cognitive-communication, and vocal cord dysfunction. I’ve advanced my training through coursework in AAC, childhood apraxia of speech, and DIR/Floortime. I collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, mentor students and trainees, and support the SLP community through educational content creation at @theslphq. I would describe my clinical style as client-centered, functional, individualized/personalized, family-centric, strengths-based, and rooted in client empowerment to create self-advocates.

Carlie approaches the speech therapy sessions with (my spouse) based on her level and capabilities, by using different questions and methods to practice her speaking but also challenges (my spouse) at a level that improves her ability to speak.

I feel very lucky to have Carlie as my SLP. Her insight, advice and support are beyond my expectations. Because of her, my confidence in speech and cognition AND my quality of life have markedly improved since we began together 4 months ago.
