About me

Hi! I’m Amy. I became a therapist because I am passionate about helping children communicate. I entered the field as a sister to someone with severe disabilities, including autism, intellectual disabilities, and epilepsy. With communication and spoken language being one of my sister’s biggest struggles, her journey has inspired me to help others like her & their families. Coming from a family like that, I understand what the day-to-day can be like, and have empathy for their hopes, struggles, and goals. Speech Therapy perfectly ties my academic interests and love for kids with my personal passions and natural empathy. Since entering the Speech Therapy world, it has opened my eyes to other areas I absolutely love treating, like Fluency and Articulation & Phonological Disorders. I graduated with a clinical concentration in Severe Disabilities/AAC. Since working, I've completed the Hanen More Than Words through the Hanen Centre, becoming a Hanen certified provider. I've completed extensive continuing ed in AAC. I've attended ASHA and the ATIA (Assistive Technology Industry Association) conferences. Being an AAC Specialist, I regularly train other SLPs and educators on AAC programs and their use in my full-time job. I've completed a variety of continuing education courses covering topics including AAC, child language, articulation and phonological interventions, and more. In the summer of 2025, I was awarded the ASHA ACE Award for earning double my required CEU credits for my first certification maintenance interval. My clinical experience spans the schools and pediatric outpatient settings. I take a client-centered and highly individualized approach to therapy. By integrating routines-based practices, I focus on supporting meaningful carryover of skills into daily life. I also prioritize family involvement, strengths-based strategies, and functional outcomes, helping each client build confidence, independence, and effective communication skills.
