Joseph Arata
Licensed Speech-Language Pathologist (M.S., CCC-SLP)
I became interested in speech-language pathology at a young age after watching my mother receive speech therapy following a stroke. Later, meeting my uncle on the autism spectrum during a visit to Fiji further inspired me to pursue a career supporting individuals with communication differences and increasing access to services within underserved communities.
My clinical experience includes working in public schools, non-public schools, and county-based programs with children and adolescents who have a wide range of communication needs. I have specialized training through the SPG AAC Mentorship, where I developed advanced skills in assessing, selecting, and implementing both high-tech and low-tech AAC systems for individuals with complex communication needs.
I am especially passionate about supporting autistic individuals, AAC users, and families through collaborative, functional care that promotes confidence and independence. I value helping clients build communication skills that carry over into meaningful everyday interactions.
My therapy approach is holistic, strengths-based, client-centered, and highly individualized. I incorporate routines-based and sensory-informed strategies while prioritizing family involvement, functional communication, and long-term self-advocacy.
