About me

Hello! I'm Lyann. I became a speech-language pathologist (SLP) because I was interested in the field of special education. I have an aunt who was diagnosed with Down syndrome, and I wanted to be able to help others who needed a voice to be heard. I love working with children and adults. I have been working with children since the age of 14 as a Sunday school teacher, and I have a passion to work with children. I love that in this career I am able to work with children and adults who have difficulty with communication, swallowing, cognition, and social communication. I enjoy every minute of my job and treat others as if they were part of my own family. I love to see the smile on the parents' faces when they hear their child communicate for the first time. That is what this career is all about. I have been taught visual phonetics, which I have seen help many of my patients working on articulation skills. I have worked in outpatient rehab facilities, nursing homes, and hospital settings. My clinical style is individualized/personalized. I like to follow the child's lead. In addition, I do like routine-based sessions in which I have created structure. Parent teaching and involvement is very important when working with my clients. I want to make sure everyone who is working with the child is working as a team to reach the child's goals.

Ms. Lyann is so patient and always incorporates a personal feel to the sessions. I've seen my son improve with his speech and reading in the short time we've had. She gives great advice on where the wins are and areas of opportunity. My son enjoys the games added to the sessions as well.

Lyann is a great therapist. She's patient, kind, and engaging. She made therapy fun for my son. The Expressable platform is wonderful too. It gave us the flexibility to do speech therapy from home since we don't have a lot of schedule flexibility as a family.

Lyann and (my son) have become very familiar and comfortable with each other over time. He enjoys speech now and actually misses it when he doesn’t have it.
