About me

Hello! I'm Val. I am a graduate of Texas Tech University and began practicing in 1996. Prior to that, I worked as a speech-language pathologist assistant for 2 years. After graduation, I moved to the Metro Detroit area of Michigan, where I completed my fellowship year at a hospital, moving on to private practice and long-term care facilities. It was during this time that I found my love for medically complex children, infant feeding/swallowing, and post-stroke rehabilitation in adults. I then worked with both adults and children for 12 years in my own private practice before moving back to Texas. I have since added oral facial myology, neurodiversity, and sensory integrative principles into my daily work. My therapy style is relaxed, infused with humor, and focused on education and treatment to empower clients and caregivers to advocate for and strive toward independent communication in all environments.

I was recently placed with a new therapist and was weary of the change as my previous therapist was wonderful. But in changing I was paired with an even better therapist. They made a perfect match for me, Val is great! She changed up my plan to fit me better and explained things very well. I would definitely recommend expressable to anyone and everyone. And again Val is wonderful.
