About me

Hi! I'm Madison. I became a licensed speech-language pathologist (SLP) in 2022. I first became interested in speech-language pathology when my father, while battling with brain cancer, was given a speech device to use to communicate. At the time, the speech device was not designed well for my father's needs and I became inspired to find other ways for him to communicate, using things like letters on t-shirts, an iPad, etc. I became passionate about helping everyone finding their voice and decided to go and study to make that a reality. While my father passed away in 2015 sadly, I dedicate my career in memoriam to my father each day. I've worked in acute care, home health, and schools. I am AMPCare certified, which is similar to Vital Stim Therapy. Throughout my masters' degree, I conducted research with the AAC Lab at University of Texas at Austin, earning the title of 2nd author on a paper now published in the ASHA Journal. I also completed a thesis during my Masters' with the AAC Lab on the efficacy of teletherapy in teaching symbol learning to a patient with severe Autism; and had the opportunity to present my research as a poster at ASHA 2022. The thesis is currently in the process of being published in a journal. Additionally during graduate school, I taught courses for the Project SKILLS curriculum. Project SKILLS is a 10 week course that teaches parents how to play with their children to increase communicative attempts. I would describe my clinical style as holistic, client-centered, functional, individualized/personalized, family-centric, sensory integrated, and rooted in client empowerment to create self-advocates.
