About me

Hi! I'm Kristy. I became a licensed speech-language pathologist (SLP) in 2017. Before becoming a speech-language pathologist, I was a preschool teacher for the Head Start Program in Puerto Rico. I loved being a teacher, and I loved to teach my preschool children. However, something that piqued my interest was my kids' communication and language difficulties. As a teacher, I couldn't do more for them, even if I wanted to. That motivated me to research, and I discovered the speech-language pathology master's program. Right then, I decided to pursue my studies in speech pathology. As soon as I graduated from the program, I moved to NY, where I worked for seven years in the early intervention (EI) setting with culturally and linguistically diverse families. I consider the EI setting fulfilling and challenging at the same time because we get to provide services not only to children but also to their families through embedded coaching. I've taken courses and training to increase my knowledge and clinical skills, such as Introduction to Sign Language for Healthcare Professionals, Natural Language Acquisition in Autism: Echolalia to Self-Generated Language, Diagnosis and Treatment of CAS using Dynamic Temporal and Tactile Cueing (DTTC), A Three-Part Treatment Plan for Oral Placement Therapy, and Introduction to Orofacial Myofunctional Therapy & Assessment. I have worked in settings such as early intervention (at home and via telehealth) and schools (via telepractice). I would describe my clinical style as holistic, client-centered, functional, family-centric, routines-based, strengths-based, and sensory integrated.
