Why feeding therapy for children is so important

Improves quality of life

Having a positive relationship with food is foundational to a child's overall development. Feeding therapy also helps your child feel connected with family and friends during mealtimes and other social gatherings.

Uses evidence-based techniques

Our clinical experts use the latest research and tools to support your child in expanding their food preferences and establishing safe, positive feeding experiences to support adequate nutrition and hydration.

Educates and empowers

Build confidence with feeding strategies that lead to a better mealtime experience. Caregivers learn to provide safety and support by understanding their child's reactions to non-preferred foods, signs of aspiration, and any changes needed for their child's diet.

How our feeding program works

When you extend feeding therapy learning and practice into everyday life, you'll make faster progress. We built our client portal to make it easy to do just that.

THE PROGRAM INCLUDES:

Expressable’s approach to sensory feeding

Our speech therapists are trained in online feeding therapy techniques and follow the Expressable approach:

1

Outcomes-focused

We typically recommend a frequency of 2 sessions per week for feeding therapy, although this may vary depending on your needs. We use both restorative and compensatory strategies and approaches when treating feeding disorders. After each session, your speech therapist will give you easy practice activities to do in everyday life. You'll find them in your portal.

2

Child-centered

Building a positive, playful relationship with your child is the foundation for their learning. Starting on day one, your speech therapist will collaborate with you and your child to tailor strategies and techniques toward the goal of creating a food-positive environment and expanding their food repertoire safely. And because therapy is online, you'll be attending from the comfort of home, along with your little one.

3

Caregiver-led

Research shows that kids learn best from the people they love and spend the most time with–that’s you! By attending sessions with your child, you’ll learn how to use these techniques at home, during everyday life.

"Maddie Kim's ability to connect with my son is unmatched! We are seeing so much progress in such a short period. Meal times are no longer a terrifying experience for him and a lot less stressful for me. Being able to consult with the SLP has been life-changing for us. My only regret is that I didn't find Expressable sooner so we could've begun intervention earlier."
