How does speech therapy support autistic children?

Uses evidence-based techniques

Our clinical experts are champions of neurodiversity. We use the latest research and techniques to support your child's authentic way of communicating and enhance their overall quality of life.

Develops communication based on strengths

A strengths-based approach helps children build new skills to achieve their full potential for communication and social independence, whether they're speaking or nonspeaking.

Educates the whole family

Parents and caregivers learn how to support their child in developing functional communication skills so they can express their wants, needs, thoughts, and feelings.

How our autism program works

When you extend speech therapy learning and practice into everyday life, kids make faster progress. We built our client portal to make it easy to do just that.

THE PROGRAM INCLUDES:

Expressable's approach to autism

Our speech therapists are trained in online therapy techniques and follow a research-based approach

1

Outcomes-focused

We typically recommend a frequency of 2 sessions per week for autism, although this may vary depending on your child's needs. Speech therapy goals should reflect meaningful priorities for your child and family. And the more often your child practices, the faster they’ll make progress. That's why after each session, your speech therapist will give you easy practice activities to do at home. You'll find them in your portal.

2

Child-centered

We believe autism is a difference, not a disorder. We support autistic children by accepting their differences, focusing on their strengths, and helping them build new skills. We meet your child where they are, using their interests and motivations to help them communicate with others in a way that's authentic to who they are.

3

Caregiver-led

Research shows that kids learn best from the people they love and spend the most time with–that’s you! By attending sessions with your child, you’ll learn how to use these techniques at home, during everyday life.
