About me

Hi! I'm Mary. I received my graduate degree in speech-language pathology in 2009 from Saint Louis University. I've wanted to be an SLP ever since 5th grade when I received speech therapy services to learn lip reading skills - my Mom signed me up to help with my unilateral hearing loss. Although I didn't know a ton about the profession at the time, I thought it sounded like so much fun, and I knew I would get to "help" other people communicate. And sure enough, I never waivered in my career direction. I majored in Speech and Language Sciences from day 1 of my college career. I have worked in a variety of settings, including skilled nursing facilities (SNFs), public schools, pediatric private practice clinics, teletherapy in early intervention, special schools for medically fragile children, and pediatric and adult home health. At this point in my career, I'm very lucky to have experience and training in a wide variety of topics. Lifelong learning is a passion of mine, so I am always taking new continuing education courses. The two main certifications that I have are the Hanen program and DINES VitalStim. Other medical courses that I have taken include: "Swallowing 101" and "Critical Thinking in Dysphagia Management" by Ianessa Humbert, "SPEAK OUT!" by Parkinson Voice Project, and the "Functional Communication for Aphasia Management" clinical conference by ASHA. Pediatric courses that I have taken include: "Powerful Phonological Assessment and Analysis" by Jennifer Taps Richard, "Dynamic Temporal and Tactile Cuing" by Edythe Strand, and the "Expanding AAC Conference" by ASHA. I would describe my clinical style as individualized/personalized and strengths-based.
